Top 20 words most frequently used in English.

Here are the top 20 words most frequently used in the English language today,
together with their phonetic pronunciation and their main meaning.

Many words in the English language can be used as more than one part of speech, and some may have several different meanings. For example: the word THAT can be used as a pronoun, a determiner, an adverb or a conjunction. Here, I have just given you a simple everyday meaning for each of these words.

HE / hɪ: / Pronoun / Noun – used to refer to a man, boy, or male animal previously mentioned or easily identified.
WAS / wɒz / Past tense of the verb Be – First and third persons singular.
FOR / fɔ: / Preposition – with the purpose of belonging to, or used in connection with.
ON / ɒn / Preposition / Adverb – over (yet touching and being supported by) a surface.
ARE / ɑ: / Present tense of the verb Be – 2nd person singular & 1st, 2nd, 3rd persons plural.
